Madikeri Fort.

The Madikeri Fort was built in 1681 and was renovated with typical stone construction in 1812 by Raja Lingarajendra II. The palace building inside the fort which is in the shape of a tortoise is being utilised as the administration office and the DC office. The fort is well located in the centre of the town and is very easy to reach. The statue of a pair of elephants on one corner of the fort has been a hallmark of the strength of the community. Foot path is provided on top of the fort wall and one can take a complete round of the fort while capturing good glance of the city around. A museum on the right side of the entrance has limited but unique collection of arms and antiques left behind by the predecessors. Government offices located inside the fort are generally busy and crowded on weekdays. However, visitors will not be influenced much by the local crowd. Weekends are generally serene and recommended if you want to spend longer time.
